aka it’s complicated.
I don’t why I did this other than I was just randomly curious about what words inspire me to pick up a book and then one thing led to another. Here we are.
Most of us have that one specific trope or genre that we can’t pass up, but we also have that one word that has us hopping to the cash register (or checkout counter at the library). We’re creatures of habit, so don’t even try to deny that you do this too.
When I was looking up books for this I noticed that, in terms of tropes, I’m a sucker for retellings or hate-to-love relationships. Slow burns aren’t so bad either…but it isn’t an auto-buy like a retelling would be. But what I also realized is that I’m weak when it comes to “Lie” (or anything along the lines of having/protecting some hidden truth).
Why can’t I resist you ask? It’s because I’m nosy as all hell, and hate not knowing a juicy piece of news.
Here’s a list of some of the titles that have my buzzword concepts that I couldn’t resist.
Last Time I Lied
Lies We Tell Ourselves
Kiss of Deception
The Tell-Tale Heart and other writings
Pretty Little Liars
One of Us is Lying
Can You Keep a Secret?
(This one might be a bit of a stretch to include her, but I think it works).
I’m pretty sure there are so much more that could be named, but there you go, these are the ones that came to mind immediately.
Do you have a buzzword or are you more of a concept person like me? I’d love to hear from you.
