I’ve been starting blog posts and just not finishing any…for the past week or so. I want to finish one, but it’s been a struggle.
I think I need to take some time to find my voice again. I’ll be back soon and you can still find me occasionally on twitter and instagram/facebook.
aka It’s our anniversary
Can you believe it’s been one year since I switched over to this platform? I can hardly believe it myself!
This past year has been…a rollercoaster to say the least. There has been so much loss and failures but, above all, there have been successes.
My year at a glance:
Received over 200 likes
Gained over 35 followers
Published over 80 posts
Read approximately 75 books
Reviewed 14 books (not including wrap-ups)
Started a bookstagram
Found new favorites and reexamined old favorites (and not so favorites)
These things might not seem like a lot for you, but it means the world to me.
Plus, I think I’ve finally gotten a handle on this whole blogging thing (she says while crossing her fingers and praying nothing goes wrong in the near future). There hasn’t been a month that I’ve not uploaded, I’ve done tags, I’ve done memes, I’ve done reviews…what’s next?
I look forward to another year on here.
I also want to say thank you to those of you who continue to come back, post after post (and even the ones who drop in every once in a while).
aka remember that time I asked you to hold me accountable? Ha!
I’m such a flop, I sweaaaar!
I’ve been distracted all month long, by things that are not books. I’ve betrayed my first love…
My latest obsessions have been:
- Black Lightning – This show has me all in my feelings, the actors are wonderful to look at, and the action is the icing on top. If you haven’t seen this Netflix/CW masterpiece yet, I suggest you get on that.
Would recommend for: fans of Marvel superheroes (especially Luke Cage and Jessica Jones) or anyone out for a little (lot) bit of eye candy.
- Watching Twitch streams – This one goes hand in hand with watching YouTube gameplay. It’s oftentimes soothing to have on while I clean or just don’t want to think about real life too hard.
Would recommend for: anyone looking for background noise while they do something else.
- Playing The Sims 4 (which I’ve found a renewed love for) – Usually what would happen is that I would watch Simmers playing the game and I’d become immediately inspired to create some fun builds of my own.
Would recommend for: anyone looking for low commitment fun that somehow sucks hours of your life without your noticing.
- An Android game called My Shelf – Similar to a longstanding game called Episodes/Choices, this is a story based game that has all of the drama, and every option you choose affects the outcome for your character.
Would recommend for: more mindless clicking with an aside of messy, messy drama.
Aside from that, this month I’ve been spending lots of time with family. Noone can really begrudge me this one right? I mean, come on!
Q: What have you been obsessed with lately?
See you on Monday!
I have the biggest review backlog that I’ve ever had, and yet I cannot find it in myself to finish the books let alone write the review. What’s worse, some of the books I haven’t even started! And it’s nothing against the books either, it’s all on me this time.
How do I make myself sit down and get these reviews done when there are so many amazing new releases or favorites to reread…and new movies and tv shows and…gah!
So…here’s what I’m asking of you, every time you see me on twitter (deereadsforfood) or insta (deereadsforfood) or goodreads (Dee Dee deereadsforfood) doing anything other than updating progress ask me how my review backlog is going. Please?
Maybe the added pressure might help.
How do you all cope with reading when there are so many distractions around?
aka the moment I realized that I might not make it.
At the beginning of the year, I had some lofty reading goals and now I’ve found myself woefully behind on all counts. According to my Goodreads Challenge, I’m four books behind schedule, I’ve not read a single King novel since last November, and my Austen challenge hasn’t left the ground. And let’s not even mention the one in one out rule I made re: my TBR. Ha!
Oh, but I HAVE read three of my most anticipated so, that’s ONE thing going my way. Still not fast enough to read them all before the year is over but one a month is better than none at all.
The saddest part of all of this is that I really want to be able to meet all of my goals, but real life just won’t let me be great (kidding, I’m grateful for everything about my real life as it stands). Unfortunately, I don’t see things changing any time soon. So, do I reduce my numbers, or just continue as I’m going and see how close to my original goals I can get?
I don’t want to readjust because that feels like quitting or admitting defeat, and I don’t think I’m there yet. But what if that’s just stubbornness talking and the reality is that I’ve already fallen too far behind? Gah! Idk…
I need your help on this one guys. What would you do if you were in my position? For context: My Goodreads Challenge is 70 books and I’ve read 12 and my anticipated is 20 and I’ve read three.
(Also, some good audiobook recommendations would be appreciated!)
aka The time being a MOH sucked all of my time and energy
If I’m being honest, I barely have time to do these once a week posts, let alone sit and read. I never knew that being a maid-of-honour was so much work!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m honoured to have been chosen, and I’m enjoying all that comes with the position but good Lord!
My time has been stretched much thinner than I’d like, so when I do get time to myself, I’m too fried to sit and read. I cannot wait for the wedding to get here (just one more month to go).
But, I did make a few commitments reading wise so here’s hoping I can carve out the time…and expect the posts to be even more sporadic towards the middle/end of February.
Until next time, share all your reading adventures so I can live vicariously through you.
Time to bask in the pampering. Bye!
AKA send help!
I don’t know how many of you saw the announcements on Twitter and Facebook but I’m having some technical difficulties. They should be rectified soon.
Here’s what you can look forward to as soon as I am up and running again:
Full review of TBDATE, October wrap up, a few recommendations and a tag or two.
Until then, keep reading.
Hi all, I’m so sorry I didn’t post anything yesterday but…life had some different plans for me.
I think, in order to take care of all that’s happening, I’ll need to go on a bit of a hiatus. It shouldn’t last more than a week (fingers crossed).
Until then, I’ll miss you all and don’t forget to keep reading.
Update: I’m back!
I’m currently reading ‘The Magicians’ by Lev Grossman (just thought I’d share that with you), and enjoying the parallels with the TV show.
The real reason for this post however: I’ve decided that I’m going to do a review of the book I finished last night, so no ACTUAL post today…
